Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, or PMFBY, is a multi-agency crop insurance scheme introduced in India as part of a broader effort to improve farm incomes and food security. Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana aims to reduce the risk of crop loss for farmers by providing them with insurance that helps them overcome any risks associated with natural disasters. This scheme is similar to other government-sponsored farmer schemes such as the National Agricultural Research and Development Policy (NARP) which was introduced in 1972 under the leadership of Dr.M S Swaminathan.
